During the Christmas holidays the medieval village of Castelfalfi is transformed into an enchanted place to discover with lights, decorations, live music and local crafts

The story of Castelfalfi stretches back centuries, and while its owners changed over the years, each ensured the village retained its original architecture, albeit with their own touch. The village first appeared on a map in 754 A.D., about 50 years after it was established by the Lombard king Faolfo, from which derives the name Castelfalfi (Castrum - Faolfo, meaning Faolfo's Castle). It was eventually taken over by the Caetani family, who transformed the village into a Renaissance residence, renovating Faolfo’s hilltop castle. In the last century, the village has been restored and revived.

The castle that King Foalfo had built on the massif of the fortress, was composed of two towers placed to protect and control the valley along the road between Lucca and Siena and on which a few years later, Giovanfrancesco Caetani and Costanza de' Medici married in 1489, electing it their home to transform it into a stately residence. Among the families that ran the community in the following centuries emerges the name of the Biondi family that took possession of Castelfalfi after the Caetani, contributing to the agricultural development of the estate with wine and tobacco production. In the last century the village has been restored and relaunched for hospitality and real estate, bringing to new life Castelfalfi from the last twenty years.
